End-to-End Testing is the method that ensures the correct logical operation of the entire protection system. OMICRON provides simplified solutions to this challenging testing task. Testing of protection systems (e.g. distance protection with teleprotection communication schemes, line differential protection, busbar protection, or synchrophasor-phasor measurement systems) is required if the correct coordination and logical operation of the protection system is to be known. A distributed protection system requires a distributed test system that is accurately time-synchronized over very long distances. For these applications it is important that the applied time synchronization devices are highly accurate. Moreover, the synchronized test sets must be designed in a way that time sync signals, for example pulses, are processed extremely fast, so that the generated test signals themselves diverge less than 1 microsecond from each other.
With available technology, the challenge is to make such distributed test scenarios as easy and efficient as possible. Therefore, it is important that the test software and hardware is designed to accomplish such distributed testing scenarios in an optimal manner. An important innovation in this field is the ability to control all tests by a single PC over secure Ethernet communications.

CMC 256plus
OMICRON's CMC 256plus is not only a test system, but also a universal calibrator with high accuracy. It is equipped with four voltage outputs (0 … 300 V) and six current outputs (0 ... 12.5 A or 3 x 25 A). The CMC 256plus is ideal for testing all generations and types of protection relays. It defines the state-of-the-art for testing in IEC 61850 environments, supporting GOOSE messages and IEC 61850-9-2 LE Sampled Values.
CMC 356
OMICRON's CMC 356 is a universal test set and commissioning tool. It comes with extremely powerful current amplifiers rated 6-phase, 0 - 32 A each (3 x 64 A), with more than 400 VA per channel. This makes the CMC 356 the perfect tool for testing all generations of relays – from electro-mechanical relays to all generations of numerical relays including IEC 61850 IEDs. Commissioning engineers choose this device due to its unique versatility that meets the diverse demands of commissioning modern substations.
CMGPS – Synchronization unit
When performing end-to-end tests of line protection schemes, it is necessary to start several test sets simultaneously. OMICRON's CMGPS is a GPS-based synchronization unit for the CMC test sets. Its small size and its low weight make it the perfect tool for testing out in the field.
CMIRIG-B – Interface box
CMIRIG-B is an interface box enabling the connection between the CMC test set and devices which send or receive the IRIG-B protocol or PPS signals. It performs the level conversion between the CMC and the sources or receivers. The actual IRIG-B decoding and coding functionality is implemented in the CMC test sets.
OMICRON Test Universe Software
The OMICRON Test Universe Software sets a new standard for versatility and easy use for the testing of protection relays as well as energy meters, transducers and PQ analyzers. The software is specifically designed to control the CMC test sets. Various software packages contain a selection of function-oriented test modules. Additional software modules for special applications complete the range.
NetSim – Network simulation software
The NetSim test module allows for power system network simulations and testing with transient signals. It is tailored to the particular needs of commissioning engineers and routine testers. Standard and network configurations with a simple parameter setup provide instant "click and run" simulations with signal output via the CMC test sets.
