R&D environments pose additional challenges for a test system. OMICRON has developed state-of-the-art technology for a robust test system that is reliable, repeatable, and highly accurate. Extensive functional prototype testing, type testing, automated sequences of tests, statistics evaluation etc. can be easily managed. All this is supported by OMICRON’s Test Universe software, ranging from predefined test sequences in an OCC container file to scripted test automation and low-level test function calls (CMEngine) from within Test Universe, or from external development and test environments.
Creating all variations of steady state signals as well as performing dynamic testing with easy-to-use network models and powerful transient simulation tools is possible. Hybrid application of classical 1 A/5 A, 100 V – 120 V secondary signals and binaries combined with any configuration of IEC 61850 GOOSE and Sampled Values is the state-of-the-art requirement that research engineers in today's power industry are confronted with. Combining all this and building a library of reusable test sequences with automatic test evaluation tools that can be combined in a flexible manner for most efficient testing provides the key to efficient high quality R&D and type testing programs. All this allows for tailored testing solutions as well as overnight batch processing of extensive and in-depth test routines.

CMC 256plus
OMICRON’s CMC 256plus is not only a test system, but also a universal field calibrator with highest accuracy. It is equipped with four voltage outputs (0 … 300 V) and six current outputs (0 ... 12.5 A or 3 x 25 A). The CMC 256plus is ideal for testing all generations and types of protection relays. It defines the state of the art for testing in IEC 61850 environments, supporting GOOSE messages and IEC 61850 9-2- LE "Sampled Values".
CMC 356
OMICRON's CMC 356 is a universal test set and commissioning tool. It comes with extremely powerful current amplifiers rated 6-phase, 0 - 32A each (3 x 64 A), with more than 400 VA per channel. This makes the CMC 356 the perfect tool for testing all generations of relays – from electro-mechanical relays to all generations of numerical relays including IEC 61850 IEDs.
OMICRON Test Universe Software
The OMICRON Test Universe Software sets a new standard for versatility and easy use for the testing of protection relays as well as energy meters, transducers and PQ analyzers. The software is specifically designed to control the CMC test sets. Various software packages contain a selection of function-oriented test modules. Additional software modules for special applications complete the range.
CM Engine – Programming interface
CM Engine is a programming interface, which allows CMC test set users to write their own programs. Thus, specific test and control requirements can be met, such as factory tests performed by protection relay manufacturers.
NetSim – Network simulation software
The NetSim test module allows for power system network simulations and testing with transient signals. It is tailored to the particular needs of commissioning engineers and routine testers. Standard network configurations with a simple parameter setup provide instant "click and run" simulations with signal output via the CMC test sets.
