Whenever maintenance has been performed on a circuit breaker or tests have been performed on a protective relay, it is common practice to test the system before starting it up again. This typically involves applying a fault current via the current transformer and circuit breaker, then checking whether the system as a whole reacts as planned.

CPC 100 – Multifunctional primary test system
OMICRON’s CPC 100 is a universal testing device that can be used for power and distribution transformers, as well as motors, generators, current and voltage transformers. The patented device is capable of outputting 800 A or, with the CP CB2 current amplifier, as much as 2000 A of fault current and can thereby cause a protective relay to trip.
