Since sections of cable or overhead lines that are physically ran parallel influence one another, with many protection relays there is the possibility of feeding the zero current of the one line into the relay of one of the other lines. So that the relay can take this current into account correctly, the relevant coupling factor must be accurately set. The calculation of the coupling factor is very error-prone, therefore, so a method measuring this is much more reliable, as well as cost-effective. With the multifunctional CPC 100 primary testing system and the CP CU1 coupling unit OMICRON has developed a unique system for the complete measurement of coupling impedance.

CPC 100 + CP CU1 line impedance measuring system
The multifunctional primary testing system CPC 100, in conjunction with the CP CU1 coupling unit, enables reliable, fast and precise measurement of line parameters, such as positive sequence and zero sequence impedance, and also of mutual coupling. For this, the zero sequence impedance of the system must be measured three times. First, with a live parallel line, then with a parallel line open at one end, and finally, with a grounded parallel line.
